TOOT
TOOT for Aldergrove!!!!!
The
Aldergrove Kinsmen Community Centre, Playtime pals program
has been recently recognized by the Children's Hospital
Oncology Clinic for the ongoing contributions of character
Band-aids, toys, videos and craft supplies.
This
initiative was launched by one of the parents from the Playtime
Pals program, Cindy Blakeney. Cindy's small daughter Jenna
was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2.
The
Blakeney family spent a lot of time at the hospital as Jenna
underwent surgery and treatment. Cindy saw a need to make
a difference for the children undergoing treatment when
she discovered that the nurses in this clinic are buying
character Band-Aids out of their own pockets to put a smile
on a child's face.
With
Cindy's recommendation and support from the AKCC (donation
of cans/bottles from vending machines) the parents of the
Playtime Pals program took on the initiative to supply character
Band-Aids, videos and toys to the hospital by contributing
to a donation jar.
This
initiative has grown into a community project that is making
a big difference and putting smiles on many children's faces.
The
very good news is Jenna is one of the success stories -
she is doing wonderfully well and is back to her playful
self.
The
AKCC was presented with a certificate of appreciation from
the Children's Hospital for their ongoing support. Staff
at the Centre will put the Certificate of appreciation and
letter on display.
